Leading investor services group IQ-EQ has announced the appointment of Alasdair McLaren as Head of Private Wealth, Guernsey.
Formerly SGG Group, the firm gained a presence in Guernsey in 2018 following its acquisitions of First Names Group and Augentius. The legacy teams, now united as IQ-EQ, are integrated by service segment across two offices in St Peter Port and St Martin, with a total of 120 staff in the jurisdiction.
A highly experienced private wealth practitioner and member of the IQ-EQ Guernsey management board, Alasdair has been with the group since 2014. Before being appointed to lead the private wealth segment in Guernsey, he held the position of Client Services Director and led a dedicated team of private wealth practitioners specialising in asset protection and estate structuring for ultra-high-net-worth international families.
“These are exciting times for IQ-EQ and I am delighted to be given this opportunity,” said Alasdair. “Private Wealth is seeing strong organic growth in Guernsey as well as ever-increasing opportunities through both our international offices and our corporate and fund administration service lines. I strongly believe we have some of the best team members to develop these opportunities.”
Managing Director of IQ-EQ Guernsey, David Preston, added: “Alasdair has been a huge asset to our business in Guernsey and to IQ-EQ’s private wealth segment as a whole, so it was a pleasure to see him named Head of Private Wealth for our jurisdiction. Guernsey is set to play an important role in the Group’s future strategy so I look forward to working closely with Alasdair and the rest of the local leadership team to maximise our potential.”
Alasdair has 30 years’ experience in the fiduciary industry, including director-level positions with Kleinwort Benson, Saffery Champness and Scottish law firm Turcan Connell. He is a Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS), a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) and a qualified Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
A well-known and respected member of the Guernsey fiduciary community, Alasdair is a former committee member and chair of STEP’s Guernsey branch, a former STEP Council member for the region and a long-standing committee member of the Guernsey Association of Trustees. This active industry involvement led to Alasdair being invited to join the judging panel for this year’s STEP Private Client Awards.
