PKF bba is celebrating 30 years in business by becoming lifetime carbon neutral, as part of their continued commitment to the environment.
The Le Hocq-based accountancy firm has already offset all of the historic carbon emissions it has generated since starting business in 1989, whilst staff have also pledged to offset 200% of their carbon emissions in future years.
Carbon is seen as one of the major culprits contributing to greenhouse gases and climate change, with a business’s carbon footprint seen as the total amount of energy it consumes and the associated emissions created by these activities.
David Moehle, partner at PKF bba, said:
“PKF bba is based close to the beach at Le Hocq. It’s an area of stunning natural beauty and preserving that splendour through environmental initiatives has always been part of our ethos. Being a carbon neutral business feels like the right thing to do for our immediate environment, but also the wider global issue of climate change. Turning 30 as a business is a significant milestone of maturity for any company and being carbon neutral is a grown-up way of affirming our continued commitment to tackling the issues that cause climate change.”
To become carbon neutral, PKF bba performed an energy audit to understand the extent of its carbon footprint and then focused on reducing the amount of carbon it produces. This was achieved through various recycling initiatives, as well as using green technologies wherever possible to counterbalance carbon generation.
David added:
“We have over 25 staff at PKF bba and they have really embraced becoming carbon neutral. It’s by no means an easy process, but some simple changes like recycling wherever possible, limiting our paper consumption, reducing relative energy use and partnering with businesses who have similar initiatives has helped us to achieve our carbon neutral goals.”
