Legal and professional services firm Ogier has won the Sustainability at Heart award at the Sustainable Finance Awards 2023 in Jersey.
The Sustainable Finance Awards were launched in 2022 to recognise businesses in the financial services sector that are making a valuable contribution to supporting the shifting of capital towards sustainable outcomes.
The Sustainability at Heart award, which is new for 2023, is designed to recognise a firm that considers sustainability and the environment at the heart of what they do.
Global managing partner Edward Mackereth (pictured) commented: “Our goal is for sustainability to be embedded in our culture and permeate our business at every level. This has meant setting challenging targets and focusing on continual improvement, approaching our decisions and activities with a sustainability mindset.
“This kind of change doesn’t happen overnight and progress wouldn’t be possible without the tireless dedication of our group head of sustainability, Andrea Leung, our global environmental steering committee, our firm-wide sustainability champions, and our people at Ogier, who have collectively embraced change and supported the firm on this journey.”
As part of its sustainability strategy, Ogier has set ambitious carbon emissions reduction targets in line with the global net-zero goal following the stringent methodology of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), and the firm is a member of the Net Zero Lawyers Alliance (NZLA) – an organisation it is working with to develop industry best practices. The firm has committed to reducing its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 50% by 2030.
To achieve these goals, the firm has launched a number of projects, including upgrading premises across its locations to reduce its environmental impact, and sourcing environmentally friendly products for common office consumables and merchandise.
