Next Monday is ‘Blue’ Monday – have a coffee on Appleby

The third Monday in January is known as ‘Blue’ Monday, regarded as the ‘gloomiest day of the year’ following the Christmas and New Year celebratory period.  This year, Blue Monday falls on 18th January 2021.

Is there any science to ‘Blue Monday’? Absolutely not! It was started by a travel company in 2005 to try and get people to book a holiday, which would supposedly make them feel better!

After the success of last year’s campaign, Appleby has once again partnered with local coffee shop Woodies in Guernsey, to offer Guernsey residents a free coffee* on Blue Monday, 18th January 2021.

The #ThanksAppleby campaign, which was hugely successful last year, will highlight the importance of creating and maintaining connections in a frenetic world, by encouraging the community to take time out of their day to grab a coffee with someone to chat or reconnect this Blue Monday.

Woodies Guernsey

The campaign works as follows:

  1. Approach Woodies coffee shop either on Le Pollet or at the bus terminus in St Peter Port on Blue Monday (18th January 2021) with someone who you would like to enjoy a coffee with.
  2. Say #ThanksAppleby to receive your free coffee.
  3. Take a photo of you having your complimentary coffee on social media with the hashtag #ThanksAppleby.

*Please note that this offer is available for the first 100 customers who engage in the campaign. Offer available for medium drinks only and only one hot drink per person will be permitted.
