A new monthly group called Rooted and Rising is launching in Guernsey.
The group aims to help mums returning to work after maternity leave and working mums with young children up to the age of 3 years old build connections, reduce isolation and access expert guidance.
Founded by Jessica Robinson and Camilla Hobbs (pictured), both lawyers at Walkers and working mums themselves, the group was created after experiencing first-hand how challenging it can be to balance work and motherhood.
The group is open to mums in any line of work, whether employed, self‑employed, part‑time or freelancing.
Recent local reporting has shown that many parents in the island are increasingly seeking communities to ‘find their tribe’ and combat loneliness, particularly when juggling work and childcare without family support. Rooted and Rising aims to offer exactly that kind of space.
The group is facilitated by Bright Beginnings Children’s Charity, who will lead the monthly lunchtime sessions. Meetings will include open discussion, shared experiences and practical advice. Selected sessions will also feature guest experts such as health visitors and women’s physiotherapists so mums can access support in one place when needed.
Jessica Robinson said: “Guernsey has a brilliant range of groups for mums on maternity leave. On returning to work, it is easy to be cut off from these support networks, making what is already a difficult transaction harder. Our aim is to provide a space for mums to connect, share experiences and access expert guidance.”
Camilla Hobbs added: “Making the adjustment back to working life is difficult to do without proper support and understanding. Our aim in setting up this group is to help create that missing support network for mums in an accessible space for those with busy working lives.”
Bright Beginnings added: “We see every day how important it is for parents to have a safe and supportive space, especially during the early years. Rooted and Rising brings mums together at a time when connection really matters, and we are pleased to help guide those conversations and offer practical support.”
