A new international network has been established to provide guidance and peer support for non-executive directors, chairs, trustees and others involved in corporate governance.
NEDness was founded by Julia Warrander, who identified a gap in accessible support after moving from executive leadership roles into advisory and non-executive positions.
The initiative provides a free peer-learning environment where aspiring and experienced board members can access guidance, exchange experiences and develop their governance skills.
Julia developed the concept around what she describes as ‘nedness’, the combination of independent thinking, constructive challenge, judgement and governance knowledge required of an effective non-executive director.
The network has already attracted participants from Australia, Sweden, the Netherlands and the United States.
NEDness also aims to support Jersey’s non-executive director community by providing opportunities for professional development and connections with board members internationally.
Julia said: “NEDness is for anyone working towards their first appointment, finding their feet on a board, managing a portfolio of roles, serving as a trustee, or looking to strengthen their organisation’s governance with non-executive expertise.
“We created it to make governance more accessible, practical, and connected, and to help people build the confidence and capability they need to contribute effectively to modern boards. Our ambition is to bring together what has often been a fragmented market and create a community where people can learn, share experiences, and strengthen governance together.”
Joining Julia in leading NEDness are Nanette van Vliet as Chief Operating Officer, Tom Noel as Chief Commercial Officer, and Peggy Curley as Chief Communications Officer.
