Mojito Bar supports ‘Count 14’ campaign with non-alcoholic cocktails

Guernsey’s Mojito Bar and Nightclub has partnered with the Health Improvement Commission to promote its island-wide Count 14 campaign over the festive period.

In collaboration with the Commission, Mojito has released a festive drinks menu dedicated to non-alcoholic or ‘no-lo’ options. The Mojito’s Merry Mocktails initiative is aimed at raising awareness of the recommended drinking guidelines while providing islanders with fun, fancy and festive non-alcoholic alternatives.

One of the Merry Mocktails included is a recreation of their signature drink, Mojito. The Ho-Ho-Nojito is made from muddled lime, mint, apple and soda frappe.

Andrea Nightingale, The Health Improvement Commission’s Substance Use Lead, said: “Christmas is often a ‘merry’ time of year in more ways than one, so it’s a great time to promote healthier drinking habits. Mojito’s Merry Mocktails are designed to look and feel just like their alcoholic counterparts, so that those choosing to have an alcohol-free night or just having a break between their drinks can still feel included and treated”.

The menus feature the guidelines to help islanders keep health risks from alcohol low: both men and women should not drink more than 14 units a week on a regular basis and should spread the units out evenly over three or more days. The campaign offers five top tips to help islanders ‘Count 14’. Mojito also has take-away recipe cards for each mocktail so customers can recreate the drinks at home.

Neil Martin, Co-owner of Mojito said: “We’re very excited about the project and take the responsibility for the health and wellbeing of our customers very seriously. Many people can find it all too easy to overindulge in drinking around Christmas time and while we want our customers to have a good time, we don’t want it to affect their health. We want to play our part in raising awareness of the guidelines and also give our customers delicious non-alcoholic alternatives so that they can join in with the Christmas celebrations in a healthy way”.

Andrea added: “We’re extremely grateful to have Mojito on board. Their involvement means we can spread our Christmas message further and remind islanders at the right time and place of the guidelines and non-alcoholic options”.
