Guernsey’s Saffery Champness Registered Fiduciaries has announced the appointment of Matthew Gilligan as an Associate Director.

Matthew will work closely with the fiduciary teams to assist them in providing bespoke offshore solutions for ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs) across a range of key jurisdictions.  He will also have a major focus on business development for the firm, helping to expand its reach and unlock new market opportunities for the fiduciaries business.

Matthew brings more than 15 years of experience in the finance industry, joining from a privately owned trust company, where he managed complex and multi-jurisdictional family structures. His work involved advising on and managing a wide range of unique and high-end assets on behalf of clients based around the globe including Europe, North America, and Asia. He has also worked on high-end residential and commercial property transactions in the UK.

Outside the office, Matthew is an active committee member for the Guernsey branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), and also serves as its Student Liaison Officer, regularly working with students to provide advice and guidance throughout their studies.

Matthew’s hire follows the appointment of Sean Walsh as Associate Director in March 2020, and the promotion of Donna Brehaut to Associate Director from 1st January 2021.

Nick Batiste, Managing Director of Saffery Champness Registered Fiduciaries in Guernsey, said: “Matthew’s hire is the right move at the right time for Saffery Champness in Guernsey. Against the backdrop of the global pandemic, our fiduciaries teams have seen rising demand from international clients looking for the reassurance which comes from working with independent professional advisers based in trusted jurisdictions. His expertise and depth of experience with managing complex multi-jurisdictional structures for high-end clients are what sets him apart from other practitioners and complement the range of talent we already boast in our fiduciaries team.

Matthew Gilligan, Associate Director at Saffery Champness, said: “Saffery Champness is renowned for the diligence and unrivalled expertise of its private client and fiduciaries practice, and it’s great to be part of such a respected and ambitious team. I look forward to working with my new colleagues across the firm to provide our clients with much-needed certainty and clarity in these challenging times.”
