The Jersey Heart Support Group has participated in the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon, raising money for cardiac care across the island.
The charity had a team consisting of a marathon runner and two relay teams, with one supporter taking part in the Virtual London Marathon.
Fundraising for Jersey Heart Support Group (JHSG) is vital to continue the different projects to help improve cardiac care on the Island during increasing financial pressures.
Elliott Dorey ran his first ever marathon, finishing in 3 hours and 11 minutes – one of the top twenty times. His efforts meant that he raised over £500 for the charity which will help fund one year of exercise classes for members.
The charity gained sponsorship from Fox and Logan McGhee Fitness to field two teams of runners in the Relay. The ‘Fox Jersey Hearts’ team finished in 10th place with the ‘Logan McGhee Fitness Jersey Hearts’ team finishing in just over 4 hours.
The Virtual London Marathon was held on the same day and Tracey Jeanne, who had heart surgery only 6 months ago, walked the marathon with her friend. The pair managed to complete the 26.2 mile walk in 7 hours, raising over £300 which will help fund further training for local Cardiac nurses.
Charlotte McCann, Chair of JHSG said: “A huge thank you to our dedicated team for raising these important funds. They have raised an amazing £1800, which would cover the cost of purchasing and placing a defibrillator in a accessible public location for example. Every penny of these funds will be spent on Island to support Cardiac Care in Jersey, keeping local hearts beating”.
