The LouLou Foundation helped introduce more young people to sport through a free golf experience day for local school pupils at Longueville Golf Range on 16 June.

Around 70 pupils from Years 5, 6 and 7 at Grouville School and Grainville School were invited to take part in the initiative, which was created to encourage children to try a sport they may not otherwise have had access to through the mainstream curriculum.

Hosted free of charge by Longueville Golf Range, the event gave pupils the opportunity to enjoy an hour-long coaching session with Head Professional James Evans in a safe, supportive and fun environment alongside their classmates.

The initiative formed part of the LouLou Foundation’s wider mission to create more opportunities for young people in Jersey to access sport, build confidence and experience the positive impact being active can have on both physical and mental wellbeing.

Peter Smith, Founder of the LouLou Foundation, said: “At the LouLou Foundation, we believe every young person should have the opportunity to experience sport, regardless of background or circumstance. Events like this are about opening doors and helping children try something new in an environment that feels welcoming, supportive and fun.

“Golf is a sport many pupils may never have considered or had the chance to access before. By partnering with Longueville Golf Range and James Evans, we hoped to break down some of those barriers and give children a really positive first introduction to the game.

“Most importantly, this was about getting young people active, outdoors and enjoying themselves with their friends.”
