Local students to join IoD Convention as ‘Leaders of Tomorrow’

An interesting evening at this year's IoD Convention, titled 'Social Capital: The Key to Economic Growth and Social Wellbeing in Guernsey.' The event aims to explore how social capital empowers businesses to collaborate effectively and forge powerful networks, fostering innovation and creating new business opportunities.

10 local students will be given the opportunity to attend the Guernsey Institute of Directors Convention as ‘Leaders of Tomorrow’.

They will also attend an exclusive lunch with the Keynote speaker, Lee Castleton OBE, and discuss the Post Office / Horizon Software Scandal.

The IoD Leaders of Tomorrow programme, sponsored by the Ana Leaf Foundation, is designed to nurture local young business talent on the island and broaden students’ horizons by showcasing diverse career pathways. It provides participants with the opportunity to connect with thought leaders and influential role models from Guernsey and beyond, helping to inspire and guide their career paths.

The students, representing Guernsey’s Post-16 education, will attend a specially organised lunch and have the unique opportunity to ask Lee Castleton OBE questions regarding the miscarriage of justice he campaigned against. They will also be encouraged to share how their generation views the many corporate governance conundrums thrown up by the scandal facing the Post Office as a result of the implementation of Horizon Software.

The students will attend the IoD Convention in the evening, where they will be able to discuss their views with the wider Guernsey business community.

Hayley de Putron, a Trustee of the Ana Leaf Foundation, said: “Our goal is to provide students with opportunities that allow them to excel and reach their full potential. We are thrilled that this programme has given Guernsey’s young people the chance to engage with leaders in the business world, with the hope of inspiring them to become the island’s future leaders.”

Karen Power, a committee member of the Institute of Directors, and lead for its student engagement programme, said: “The IoD is extremely pleased to work with the Ana Leaf Foundation again this year, supporting the Leaders of Tomorrow scheme. The lunch will provide a unique opportunity for the students to hear firsthand from our special guest Lee Castleton OBE about the lessons we can all learn from the post office scandal.”
