The former Head of English for Victoria College, Marianne Adams, has left the classroom behind to publish her first novel ‘A Lesson in Perfection’.
The novel is now available on Amazon as a paperback and through Kindle.
The book has been 15 years in the making. Miss Adams (pictured) has drawn inspiration from her years of teaching in both the UK and Jersey.
A Lesson in Perfection is an uplifting romantic comedy based in Berkshire where a teacher negotiates calamities in school, life and love. It is a humorous insight into the life of Samantha Sheffield, a teacher in her late twenties. Sam navigates her complicated relationship with her secretive fiancé Seb, while she battles the stress of an impending Ofsted inspection, difficult students and a headteacher who wants more than a professional relationship.
Despite being a comedy, there is a mystery to be solved, twists and turns abound, culminating in a shocking twist ending.
Miss Adams was born and educated in Jersey. After graduating from Exeter University, she continued to gain a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and taught in the Southwest of England for 6 years. But the draw of island life was too strong, and she returned to her family and friends in Jersey. When she’s not writing, reading or teaching, you will find Miss Adams enjoying the coastal paths and beaches of her home.
Marianne Adams, Author and Tutor, said: “Having worked in the teaching industry for 16 years, I have always felt that teaching provides a rich world for comedy and intrigue, which is why my debut novel follows the life of a young teacher.
“I have always dreamed of being a writer but it took a huge leap of faith to actually change my life and commit to publishing this novel. I am so pleased I took the risk and I’m grateful to all my early readers who are so supportive in their feedback and reviews.
“When I first started to write A Lesson in Perfection, I had intended it to be a stand-alone but as I wrote more, I fell in love with my characters and now see it as part of a series of three where Sam’s career and love life will develop. Having completed Sam’s first story, I have already mapped out and started working on the plot for the next two books.”
