Lloyds Bank Foundation appoints banking leader as new Trustee
Share on LinkedInTwitterFacebookEmail

Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands (LBFCI) has appointed Alasdair Gardner as a new Trustee. Bringing valuable insight from his previous role as Trustee of Bank of Scotland Foundation (BoSF) and a wealth of banking and finance experience from his senior leadership positions within Lloyds Banking Group, he will provide valuable input to the board.

Alasdair has enjoyed a career spanning 30 years in the banking industry; starting as a graduate trainee with Bank of Scotland in 1987. He became CEO of The Islands Business, Lloyds Bank Corporate Markets in 2020. Prior to this, his roles in Lloyds Banking Group included Head of Industrials and Commercial Banking Scotland, Head of Large Corporates North America and MD for Lloyds Mid Markets business in Scotland and North of England.

In 2009, Alasdair was involved in the set-up of the Bank of Scotland Foundation – one of Lloyds Banking Group’s four independently registered country Foundations. His motivation was a firm commitment to championing and supporting local charities in Scotland to ensure they received the support they needed to thrive.

During his time as a Trustee of BoSF, he focused on engaging local politicians to gain appropriate support to help publicise the work of the Bank of Scotland Foundation, in order to ensure eligible charities were aware of the support available to them. In 2015, he left his position and moved to New Jersey for a three-year secondment with Lloyds Banking Group as its head of global corporates in North America.

Commenting on his new appointment on the Board of Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands, Alasdair said: “The opportunity to become a trustee of the Foundation is really exciting for me. Lloyds Bank Foundation carries out fantastic work across the Channel Islands, supporting incredible charities, who themselves undertake very valuable work in our communities”.

Alasdair continued: “Having been involved in the creation of the Bank of Scotland Foundation, I hope that I can bring broad and important experience to the board and play a role in maintaining the strong relationship with the Bank and its colleagues across the islands. I look forward to working with the team in supporting their work and engagement with external stakeholders”.

Commenting on the appointment, Chair of the Foundation, Katie Le Quesne says: “When it comes to new appointments, our objective is to ensure we bring new energy and ideas to the board, which Alasdair undoubtedly does. His experience in
working with government and politicians will be invaluable to the Board; further developing our current dialogue and desire to find new ways to work with government and other funders in a proactive and joined-up approach in order to effectively tackle complex social issues and to help the people in our communities who need our help most”.
