KPMG raises over £21,600 for Live At Home charity

Staff at KPMG in the Crown Dependencies have raised £21,611.82 for Live At Home, the firm’s chosen charity during 2023.

The Manx charity was established in 1988 to enable members to live happily at home for as long as they can and aims to improve the quality of life and eliminate isolation and loneliness among the island’s elderly population. The charity also provides the elderly with reassurance that there is always someone they can turn to for help, advice, or simply a chat.

The money was raised across a range of activities organised over the past year, including dress-down days, cake sales and office raffles. The ever-popular Prom Relay raised over £12,000 alone and continues to be a favourite event in the fundraising calendar, with circa 300 runners taking part in July. In addition, the proceeds from two quiz nights, supported by local corporate teams, also raised an extra £3,700.

The firm’s support for the charity extended beyond fundraising, including attendance at a few of Live At Home’s own fundraising events, as well as hosting a number of the charity’s members at KPMG’s office on Athol Street so that KPMG staff could meet members of the charity over coffee and cake.

Kristan King, Head of Citizenship for the Isle of Man at KPMG in the Crown Dependencies, said, “We’re delighted to be able to make this contribution to Live At Home and, as usual, we’ve been overwhelmed by the support and generosity of our people here at KPMG, the local community and our regular corporate sponsors. Our fundraising efforts also wouldn’t be possible without the volunteers who give up their time to make sure the fundraising events are a success”.

Karen Winter, CEO at Live At Home, commented, “Live at Home is a befriending service which aims to help eliminate social isolation and loneliness in older people. We are all aware that isolation and loneliness can lead to physical and mental ill health, and sadly statistics show that loneliness and social isolation is on the increase. Live At Home currently assists by providing social groups, outings, telephone befriending, one to one befriending and Northern Men in Sheds, which help to elevate ill health and assist people to remain in their own homes for as long as possible. Without the help and support of firms like KPMG, this work would not be possible, and we are extremely grateful for their assistance and continued friendship”.

As one fundraising partnership comes to a close, KPMG has announced that its next chosen charity will be Arlo’s Adventure. Arlo’s Adventure has two primary focuses which are 1) to assist Manx residents who require treatment in hospitals in the UK and their family members including meeting the costs of transport and accommodation and 2) to support bereaved families by raising awareness of the effects of the loss of a child or a pregnancy, through the provision of emotional and practical support to Manx families.
