349 Guernsey schoolchildren have so far benefited from the Sure-sponsored Guernsey Football Association Community Programme.
Since the programme kicked off at the start of September, children from Vauvert, Castel, La Mare de Carteret, St Martins and Les Varendes have participated in the football-based activities, led by Football Development Officer, Scarlett Kenneally (pictured).
The children have spent a combined 106 hours playing football, scoring 2,094 goals and making an incredible 6,980 tackles, with 187 girls and 162 boys taking part across the five schools.
Mike Fawkner-Corbett, Acting Chief Commercial Officer at Sure, said: “This is exactly the type of programme I wish I had when I was in school, so it’s something we’re immensely proud to be a part of.
“It’s amazing to see how many children have been actively involved in the Community Programme and it’s wonderful to see football becoming more inclusive and accessible. We look forward to seeing how the rest of the term unfolds.”
Scarlett said: “Sure’s support of these sessions has been invaluable. Together we’re helping to inspire the next generation of football players and building a stronger community through sport.
“For the children that don’t play football outside of school, this has been a great opportunity to develop a really solid base knowledge of the game. The sheer number of goals and tackles show the energy and excitement the kids are bringing to every session.”
