JT supports Music in Action with digital tools to enhance access to music education

JT has supported Jersey charity Music in Action with the donation of four tablet devices to help enhance digital access to music education for children from lowerincome families.

The tablets will be used as part of Music in Action’s musical education social access scheme, which currently supports around 90 children whose families are in receipt of income support. Through bursaries funded by the charity, these children receive specialist instrumental tuition, smallgroup learning, opportunities to perform within their schools and access to practice clubs – opening the door to creativity, confidence and personal development through music.

The addition of tablet devices will enable music to be stored and shared digitally during lessons, supporting children to read music and learn music theory in a more engaging, interactive way. The technology also allows tutors to more easily review progress, tailor support to individual needs and build skills that extend beyond music into wider learning and wellbeing.

For many of the children taking part in the programme, access to this type of digital learning tool at home would not otherwise be possible.

Naomi Mews, Treasurer of Music in Action, said: “Music has the power to transform a child’s confidence, wellbeing and outlook, but access to learning tools is not equal for every family. These tablets will make a real difference to our students, allowing them to read music, explore theory and develop skills in a way that is fun, interactive and inclusive.

“We are extremely grateful to JT for recognising the importance of digital access in music education and for helping us continue to remove barriers for the children we support.”

Laura Belo, Head of Human Resources at JT, said: “At JT, we believe digital technology should open doors, not create barriers. Supporting Music in Action with devices that enhance learning and development, creativity and confidence for young people is a great example of how digital can be used for good.

“Music education builds skills for life, and we’re proud to support a programme that is creating meaningful opportunities for children who might otherwise miss out.”
