Butterfield has announced its continued support of local charity Male Uprising Guernsey (MUG) through its annual Bermuda Shorts Week fundraiser.
From Monday 13th June 2022, islanders are encouraged to wear the traditional Bermudian business attire of shorts and knee-high socks. This theme is in recognition of Butterfield’s roots in Bermuda, where it is headquartered. Funds raised from the initiative will be used by MUG to supply schools in the Bailiwick of Guernsey with sun cream and to educate students on the risks of skin cancer and the benefits of prevention.
Butterfield and MUG are aiming to raise £10,000 this year – the fifth year of the popular event – which will be achieved by 500 people signing up. Individual sign-ups are £20, or companies can register their employees with a corporate rate of £250.
The first 100 people to sign up will receive a free pair of knee-high socks which can be collected from Butterfield’s Regency Court office, and all participants will enjoy a complimentary breakfast at the launch party on 13th June at The Boathouse.
Lindsay Ozanne, Managing Director of Butterfield in Guernsey, said: “Bermuda Shorts Week is a well-loved initiative that we are proud to support. Not only is it for a worthy cause but it is a fun way for us to celebrate Butterfield’s heritage. What’s more, next year we’ll be celebrating our 50th anniversary in the Channel Islands and so continuing to give back to the local community remains an important priority for us.”
Mike Richards, Council Member at Male Uprising Guernsey, said: “Bermuda Shorts Week is one of our most popular fundraisers. It is both a fun and visual way for individuals and businesses to show their support and it helps to raise valuable funds to continue our sun safety work in local schools. We are extremely thankful to Butterfield for its continued sponsorship and encourage the Guernsey community continue to get their shorts and socks on for the cause.”
A spokesperson from Sark School, which has benefitted from MUG’s sun safety work, said: “The sun cream dispenser is a wonderful provision for our children. It’s great for them to be shown and learn how to apply their sun protection before going out into the playground. With the dispenser being attached to the outside door, it has become a routine for the children to say ‘hat and cream’ before stepping out!”
