After a hotly contested semi-final, three teams representing three different schools competed in the local final of the 2025 Young Enterprise Company Competition at the Freedom Centre on Thursday, 1st May 2025.
The Local Area Board have announced the competition results. The overall best Company will represent Jersey in London on 21-May 2025.
Eamon Fenlon, Chairman of the Jersey Young Enterprise Board said: “We changed things up this year based on feedback from various stakeholders including the students, business community, and the schools. We also teamed up with Skills Jersey as our delivery partner. With 183 students attending the launch event, resulting in 30 teams starting the competition and 16 teams making it to the semi-finals, the new format was a huge success.
“As this was a pilot year where we shortened the duration of the program and lowered the year group from Year 12s to Year 9s, we were unsure whether the Company program would suit. The students in the semi-finals and in the finals have blown us away with their abilities and enthusiasm.
“The Young Enterprise competition is not just about which team has made the most profit. It considers what the students have learned by going on the journey from establishing a company, raising capital, bonding as a functioning team, coming up with product ideas, making the products and then being able to sell the products and maintain accurate records. The judges were asked to consider success against the following four key elements:
- The enterprise
- Running of the enterprise
- The team journey
- The impact and legacy of the enterprise.
“During the company formation, development and implementation journey the students will have learned life lessons such as collaboration, communication, compromise as well as the more academic aspects such as finance, HR, corporate governance, marketing and branding that will propel them forward in their future careers.”
Many thanks to the team of semi-final judges (Jane Hayes, Michelle Bruce, Julian Le Pavoux, Lauren Taylor, Kirsty Mackay), and the final judges (Giles Baxter, Paul Murphy and Stuart Penn) without whom the competition would not have run as smoothly as it did.
Giles Baxter, Managing Director, Head of Technical Trust, RBC Wealth Management, who was a member of the final judging panel said: “It was a great privilege to support the programme and act as a judge. The teams impressed with their products, purpose and results. They shared some brilliant insights during their presentations, demonstrating how this real-world experience of commerce and enterprise supports the development of Jersey’s future creators, entrepreneurs and leaders.”
