The Jersey Young Enterprise Board are delighted to announce that this year the Young Enterprise Teams have been given a ‘Charity Auction Task’ challenge as part of the Company Program. Students will choose an item from Acorn Reuse in Trinity, upcycle it to add value, and sell at an online auction. We encourage the whole community to actively support the online auction, the competing student teams and their respective Business Advisors.
Eamon Fenlon, Chairman of the Jersey Young Enterprise Board said: “We have been fortunate not only to have an energetic Board, experienced Business Advisors and committed students who have already shown that they will embrace new ways of working, but also that locally in Jersey we have a whole host of skills and experience we can plug into via the local business community.
“This year, our student teams are forging ahead to develop online and service provision businesses, and are discovering new sales channels and new routes to market. Due to the very many COVID challenges not least being the social distance restrictions and the very real prospect of the student teams not having access to their traditional sales highlights such as Christmas markets and Christmas fayres, we have embraced innovation and come up with our own plan B, the ‘Charity Auction Task’. We hope that it will be well received and encourage you all to promote this initiative”.
Mary Frawley – Business Community Liaison commented: “In early October we were approached by JET / Acorn with the re-upcycling concept which together we worked through and refined. The ‘Charity Auction Task’ became a reality following the fantastic support of the team at Simon Drieu, who agreed to offer us pre Christmas online auction slots for the student teams.
The details of the ’Charity Auction Task’ challenge are below:
- Each student team will be allocated £50 from the Board;
- Representatives from each student team will then be allowed into Acorn (adhering to COVID protocols) to select a product;
- Each team supported by their Business Advisors will have two weeks to upcycle and market their selected product;
- The products will be passed from the teams to Simon Drieu who will prepare each item for auction;
- The products will feature in the 16th of December auction;
- The team whose item is auctioned for the most money will win the challenge;
- All funds raised will be passed to JET / Acorn.
“The ‘Charity Auction Task’ is a great example of positive community co-working and it has been a pleasure working alongside the various supporting organisations and learning more about each other in the process”.
Acorn’s Fundraising Manager Caroline Spencer said: “We are delighted to be working with Young Enterprise, particularly at this challenging time when everyone is having to think of different ways of doing things. We hope the students enjoy seeking out their bargains at Acorn and we wish them every success”.
