Are you wanting to follow a GCSE Art & Design course but finding it doesn’t fit in with the school syllabus, you are home schooled, or you missed out when you were at school? Well here is your opportunity.
Art in the Frame Foundation will again be running a one year Art & Design GCSE at The Harbour Gallery Jersey commencing Tuesday 14th September 4.30 – 6.30pm term time, excluding half term. 2020/21 looks as if it could be a very successful year for our students!
Pat Robson from the Harbour Gallery said: “We are delighted to welcome Maxine Griffiths, a very experienced Art and Design teacher and who has run courses at the gallery, as course leader. We will be working with the Edexcel examination board.
“The course is suitable for those with a great love of art, who are at school age 14 and above, home schooled, those who prefer to work in a small friendly group for various reasons or part time working or retired. The maximum size of the group will be ten students keeping the group small so that students can receive one to one tuition throughout the year… so get in touch early.”
Students will be introduced to a wide range of materials to include painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and textiles. Students will participate in theme based units to allow them to gain experience in a variety of materials and processes before working towards their own independent project based on their developing interests.
Students who wish to join the course will be set a summer task. The cost will be £30 a session paid termly, terms will differ in length according to public holidays and approximately 8 to 14 weeks. If you withdraw from the course you must give a terms notice.
Art in the Frame Foundation will be offering one full time scholarship and two half scholarships to students who the charity consider will benefit from them, exam fees will also be paid for these students.
Art material packs are available to purchase from the gallery, containing an A3 sketchbook, pencils, paintbrushes, and a set of acrylic paints and a portfolio. Students should bring these to every class but many others materials will be provided free of charge. Any art materials purchased at the gallery have a 10% discount for all students.
