Jersey Lifeboat Association forms new charity

Collas Crill has assisted with the establishment of new independent charity, the Jersey Lifeboat Association (JLA)

Members of the firm’s trusts and fiduciary, and dispute resolution teams dealt with the documentation and court application to incorporate the charity under the Loi (1862) sur les teneures en fidéicommis et l’incorporation d’assocations.

The organisation was formed following a well-publicised decision of the St Helier RNLI lifeboat crew to break away from the RNLI and to form an independent lifeboat service in St Helier.

Notwithstanding its establishment, the JLA intends to work collaboratively with the RNLI, like a number of independent lifeboat services in the UK.

Former Senator Ben Shenton is chairman of the new organisation.

Kellyann Ozouf, head of the trusts and fiduciary team in Jersey said: “We’re delighted to have been able to help establish the JLA. As an island, its services will be vital to those using our coastal waters.”
