Jersey’s Government is launching a programme of internships, apprenticeships and professional apprenticeships to enable more Islanders to take up careers in the public sector.

The ‘Early in Careers’ programme is aimed at young people and career switchers, with the aim of training and retaining on-Island talent.

The programme is the first time the Government has offered a comprehensive range of careers opportunities, which will include summer internships.

The summer internships will run between 20 July and 31 August. These internships are open to Higher Education students and recent graduates. Six-week placements offer interns the opportunity to work in a department that suits their interests and educational backgrounds.

Candidates have until Friday 6th May to apply and applications are now open here.

Apprentice and professional apprentice schemes will be open to school leavers and graduates, and to older Islanders looking to make a career change. Applications will open in the next few weeks.

Vice-Chair of the States Employment Board, Connétable Richard Buchanan, said: “The Government of Jersey’s internship programme offers numerous placements across a diverse range of services, from health, finance and education to the States of Jersey Police.

“Our wider ‘Early in Careers’ programme forms an important part of our drive to invest in our on-Island talent and support the Island’s future skills needs.”

Minister for Children and Education, Deputy Scott Wickenden, added: “I’d encourage students to take a look at the range of placements on offer as there are opportunities that will suit a whole host of skills sets and interests. The public service is Jersey’s biggest employer and can offer unique experiences that will form a great foundation for interns’ future careers.”
