Two environmental charitable causes in Jersey have been awarded a total of £38,999, supported by Channel Islands Lottery funding.
Jersey Community Foundation has awarded the National Trust for Jersey with £8,999 of Channel Islands (CI) Lottery Funding. The National Trust for Jersey works hard to protect Jersey’s natural beauty, rich wildlife and historic places for everyone to enjoy. They used the grant to research invasive species in Jersey, like feral ferrets and rats, and find sustainable ways to reduce their impact on local wildlife.
The Association of Jersey Charities (AJC) has also awarded £30,000 of Channel Islands (CI) Lottery funding to Jersey Trees for Life. Jersey Trees for Life plants, protects and preserve trees and hedgerows across the island, while educating and inspiring the local community about the natural environment and its importance.
The CI Lottery works closely with Jersey Community Foundation, the Association of Jersey Charities and the Social Investment Fund to distribute lottery funding to worthy charitable causes across the Channel Islands.
“We are delighted to support environmental initiatives through the Channel Islands Lottery,” says Jon Taylor, Presiding Officer of the CI Lottery. “Funding these dedicated organisations allows us to contribute to the preservation and enhancement of our natural surroundings. Their work in protecting wildlife, promoting sustainability and educating the community is vital for the future of our islands, and we are proud to play a part in their efforts.”
Other environmental and animal charitable causes that have been supported by CI Lottery funding include, but are not limited to:
- Sangan Island Conservation
- Uppsala University
- Jersey International Centre of Advanced Studies (JICAS)
- Durrell
- JSPCA
