A local PR consultant has been recognised by his professional body as part of the celebrations to mark its 70thanniversary.
Guy Le Maistre of ExposurePR has been named on the 70 at 70 list produced by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) to honour the individuals who’ve made “an outstanding contribution to the Institute and the wider public relations industry”.
A founding member of the Channel Islands Group of the CIPR, which was established in 2008, Guy has since held various committee roles including that of Deputy Chair, and is currently the Group’s Treasurer. One of the CIPR’s first Accredited Practitioners, he is also the liaison for iProvision, the CIPR’s benevolent fund.
According to the citation on the CIPR’s website, “Guy was instrumental in the success and growth of the Channel Islands Group, especially in widening its reach across the business community in both islands” and, as a PR consultant, “has given freely of his time, knowledge and expertise to a host of third sector and community organisations”.
In announcing the 70 at 70 list, Sarah Hall, the CIPR President, commented: “At the start of this very special anniversary year, we wanted to celebrate the practitioners who regularly go above and beyond. Chosen by our membership and judged by an independent committee, we now have our fantastic 70 at 70. Thanks to everyone who gives their time so generously to help the industry and CIPR thrive.”
Also recognised on the list is Guernseyman Steve Falla, a former CI Group Chairman, along with two other leading PR practitioners and industry experts with close links to Jersey, Jason MacKenzie and Steve Shepperson-Smith – all three of whom were also founding members of the Channel Islands Group.
Steve Falla, the founder and former managing director of Orchard PR, was, until recently, a member of both the Board and Council of the CIPR, having previously been made a Fellow of the CIPR in recognition of his immense contribution to the promotion of professional public relations practice in the Channel Islands.
Jason, a former ITV Channel Television journalist, was the co-founder of One Strategic which later merged with Liquid to become one of PRWeek’s UK Top 150 consultancies. The founding Chairman of the Channel Islands Group, he is the Vice President of the CIPR.
Steve Shepperson-Smith, who set up Image PR in Jersey, is now Senior Corporate Communications Manager at Vodafone. He is also the Chair of the Greater London Group and recently led the Task and Finish group associated with updating the CIPR’s skills and best practice guides.
Guy and his fellow nominees attended a special reception in London on 14 November to commemorate the 70 at 70 list, and to celebrate the launch of Platinum – the CIPR’s new crowdsourced book showcasing excellence in public relations. Edited by Stephen Waddington Found.Chart.PR, Hon FCIPR, Platinum is the story of the CIPR as told by its members.
