Jersey charity Centrepoint appoints new Chair

Local law firm partner Michelle Leverington has been appointed as Chair of Jersey charity Centrepoint.

Michelle (pictured) first advised Centrepoint on its constitution in 2014 and was quickly appointed to the board towards the end of 2014. She subsequently took on the role of Vice-Chair, working closely with the late Nigel Hill, an inspirational leader who was instrumental in driving the charity forward before his passing in June 2022.

Michelle is a Partner at BCR Law LLP and Head of the firm’s Property team. In her role, Michelle deals with a wide range of residential and commercial property matters, as well as the administration of probates. She often advises charities on a multitude of needs.

Michelle said: “I have always strongly connected with the ethos of Centrepoint. I have two children and I know how expensive and tricky childcare arrangements can be. When I first started working with the charity, my child was attending holiday clubs and I recognised what a vital service this can be to enable people to go to work who might not have been able to go otherwise.

“It has been amazing to see how the charity has changed and grown since then, in particular Centrepoint’s dedication to providing more inclusive and accessible services. We support a lot of children with alternative abilities, providing a variety of programmes to enable all children to have the very best start.

“To continue to operate at Centrepoint and to ensure our facilities are the best they can be for all children, we need to be funded effectively. We rely heavily on the kindness of the Jersey community through their fundraising, donations and volunteering and I am always amazed at how generous people are when they find out what we do.

“In my role as Chair I hope to highlight all the fantastic services that we offer and what we do for Islanders. We are always on the look out for volunteers with a childcare background to support us. We invest heavily in our colleagues and their training as it is the people that truly make Centrepoint the amazing charity it is for the children and families of Jersey.”
