The Jersey Care Commission has announced that Glenn Houston will be extending his role as Chair of the Commission for a further two years.
Mr Houston (pictured) is an experienced senior executive with over 40 years experience of working in the integrated health and social care system in Northern Ireland. He has over 20 years experience of operating at Board level, including working at both Director and Chief Executive levels in several organisations.
Between 2009 and 2016, he was Chief Executive of the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority – Northern Ireland’s independent health and social care regulator. He was a member of the Board of the European Partnership of Supervisory Organisations for three years, served as President of that Board in 2015 and has worked on projects in The Netherlands, Denmark, and Kosovo.
Mr Houston is a qualified social worker and was formerly Executive Director of Social Work on the Board of the Northern Health and Social Care Trust. In 2014 he was awarded a Master of Science degree in Inter-Professional Health and Social Care Management from Queen’s University Belfast.
Glenn holds a number of other public appointments, including as Non-Executive Director of the Northern Health and Social Care Trust and as an Independent Board Member on the Board of the Northern Ireland Public Prosecution Service. Previously he has served two consecutive terms on the UK Boards of the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
The role of the Jersey Care Commission is to provide independent assurance about the quality and safety of a range of health and social care services registered in Jersey and the professional staff who work in these services.
Glenn’s extension as Chair is an important independent role. The remit of the Commission will expand over the next two years as new regulations and standards will extend to cover additional aspects of health and care services to both children and adults.
Deputy Jonathan Renouf is the Minister overseeing the Jersey Care Commission. He said: “I’m pleased to confirm that Glenn Houston’s position as chairman is being extended for a further two years. The role of the Jersey Care Commission is to provide independent assurance about the quality and safety of a range of health and social care services offered in Jersey. As the remit of the Commission expands, extending Glenn’s role offers important continuity and stability, which will support the Commission in ensuring these essential services meet Islanders’ needs, support their quality of life and protect them from harm.”
