The 2021 ‘Around the island walk’, sponsored by TMF Group, raised £148,123 for local charities.
The main charities to benefit are Sanctuary House, Dementia Jersey and Every Child our Future. In addition, the following charities will receive lesser amounts: Durrell (who also organised the finish), Wetwheels, Healing Waves, Pain Support Group, Rescue Dogs, Les Amis and Caring Cooks.
The organisers of the event praised St John’s Ambulance, the Scouts and Guides who ‘did tremendous work and will all receive recognition’. This year the trustees decided to award mementoes to the Scouts and Guides as Walk Heroes for all the work that they have done over very many years.
The oldest to complete the walk was Jeremy Johnson, aged 74 and the youngest was Jaden Stott 13 (both shown in the main picture).
The most funds raised by an individual completing the walk was Melanie le Cornu and ‘A canter for Craig’ were the relay team that raised the most amount of money.
The walk celebrated its 30th Anniversary this year and the total raised during that period is in the region of £2,600,000. One of the main provisions is that ALL the money raised by the walkers is redistributed to charities with the sponsors, TMF Group funding the expenses. This Year TMF Group also donated £10,000 to the charities ‘pot’ and are already looking forward to the 2022 event with the excitement around it building already.
The Trustees have thanked all the walkers who raised the money, the sponsors, TMF Group and the mass of volunteers who assisted on the day.
The 2022 walk will be on 18th June and the website will open for Early Bird registration on 15th January 2022.
Applications from Charities for that walk can be submitted to Island Walk, POX 848, St Helleir, JE4 0XA by 15th November with details of the project, accounts for the last 3 years and what money has already been received.
