Socks won’t be top of islanders’ Christmas lists this year, according to data gathered by Sure, with many respondents stating the clothing item has previously been the worst present they’ve received.

One respondent went as far as to note: “If someone doesn’t like you, they send socks.”

Sure surveyed their customers, asking their experience of the worst Christmas presents they’ve received and given, as well as their least-desired presents, and they did not hold back.

Reigning supreme as the least-desired Christmas present for this year, 21% of islanders said they don’t want to open a 2024 calendar or health and fitness items on the big day.

Candles also ranked highly in the ‘least like to receive’ at 18%, with underwear (15%) and socks (14%) close behind.

Honourable mentions included golf lessons, a book on completing sudoku puzzles, and deodorant.

Christmas is a time for giving, sharing the love and spreading festive joy. It is about more than just gifts; it is about appreciating what you have and feeling grateful for the loved ones around you. But sometimes, a present is just bad.

From vacuum cleaners, to Everton hats gifted to Liverpool fans, most customers seem to have been given a present that doesn’t quite put a smile on their face.

Gemma Ainger, Brand Marketing Lead at Sure, said: “This year, we want to make sure that no one opens a bad present on Christmas Day. It’s been interesting to find out which gifts people don’t want to unwrap at Christmas, personally I love a candle. But luckily, Sure is working hard throughout December to make Christmas shopping as fun as possible, while offering gift options that will no doubt put a smile on loved ones’ faces.”
