John Clacy, head of Deloitte UK Financial Services Portfolio Audit, is tackling the Brighton Marathon to raise money for Grow, Deloitte’s Five Million Futures charity.
The Brighton Marathon is the UK’s third-largest marathon and will take place on Sunday 7 April 2024. The 26.2 mile race will start at Preston Park, go into Withdean before turning back down London Road towards the city. The final stretch will see the runners follow the coast into Hove.
John Clacy said: “I used to run a lot and loved running, particularly long distances. However, a nasty rugby injury (a dislocated hip) slowed my running abilities, and I stopped running about 20 years ago. I had a hip replacement five years ago, and late last year, I thought I might see if I could run again. It was tough, and I couldn’t complete more than two circuits of the garden.
“As I am a relatively goal-driven person, I decided to boost my determination to run again; I’d target a goal – and this was the Brighton Marathon. I am following (ish) a couch-to-marathon plan, which, if (or should I say when) I do it, will have been the hardest physical challenge I have done.
“I was over the moon when Deloitte in Guernsey chose GROW as our 5 Million Futures charity partner. So, when I decided to run a marathon this year, there was only one charity I could run for. I have secured matched funding from Deloitte, so for every pound donated, two will go to Grow.”
