The Tourism Management Board, working alongside VisitGuernsey, has launched the Island Ambassador Training Scheme.
The scheme aims to encourage those who work in the local tourism sector to become ambassadors for the Island and further enhance their local knowledge and level of customer service.
The scheme will be rolled out to all those working in visitor-facing roles across the tourism sector – providing a consistent, quality approach to build upon the overall visitor experience.
The programme is designed as a module to be delivered as part of a business’s existing training, and can be adapted to suit their specific product or service. The TMB is also encouraging industry groups to deliver sessions, allowing independent traders to also take part.
VisitGuernsey will also offer the opportunity to join an online or in-person training session. These are designed to be interactive, to stimulate discussion, and allow participants to network and make meaningful industry connections.
Ambassador badges can be collected from the Visitor Information Centre once the scheme is completed. Businesses will also be able to use a digital version of the badge within their own marketing and communications.
Charlie Walker, co-chair of the Tourism Management Board, said: “We want visitors to have the best experience possible, from the moment they arrive. Our aim is to improve skills and Island knowledge across the sector and promote an excellent visitor journey. Every touch point should be a positive one, encouraging return trips and recommending the Islands to friends and family. Training new Guernsey Ambassadors should benefit our whole industry.”
