Inspiring Girls Jersey, a subsidiary of Inspiring Girls international launched today and is being supported by Lean In Jersey.
Inspiring Girls international IG) was founded by Miriam Gonzalez-Durantez, a UN advisor, lawyer, partner of a prestigious US law firm and wife of Nick Clegg (former UK Deputy PM), who believes passionately that every young woman should feel free to choose what they want to do and only be limited by the extent of her own efforts.
The concept is really simple – IG provides role model examples for girls aged between 10-15. Studies show that during ages 11-15 46% girls say they wouldn’t have confidence to become leaders or do not believe it possible to do so, and that between 10-12 their self belief drops by almost half!
By showing girls examples of real female leaders, we show them that it is possible!
Role models from all levels of business sectors and public service are needed, across as many backgrounds as possible, so that a really great platform can be built for local girls to access. So, whether you have just chosen a career, are starting out or are a CEO/Director, your help is needed!
Role models are asked to record a short video for the IG Jersey hub, which only takes 20-30 minutes to complete.
The IG Jersey team will then be working with local schools to share access to the IG Jersey Video Hub over the coming months and they can use this to allow access for the girls to watch the videos and find a role model that speaks to them.
If the girls/teacher would like to contact the role model, they can indicate this through the hub which sends a message direct to the IG Jersey team. The team will then get in touch with the role model to see if they would be willing to share their story live with the girls (virtual for now) and take some questions. This bit is totally optional, so if you just want to submit a video but don’t feel you have the time to perhaps interact live with girls later this year then please don’t worry!
