Ian Brown’s Cycle Shop 30 Rides in 30 Days Challenge raises much needed funds for Les Bourgs Hospice.
This year’s event started on Saturday 3rd May and ended with the final day on Sunday 1st June where the riders joined in the annual Rock to Rocque round island ride also raising funds for Les Bourgs.
This is the eighteenth year and since 2008 the annual cycling challenge has raised over one million pounds. There were 87 participants, 18 of which took part for the first time. All riders wore distinctive green, white and purple jerseys this year and all pledged to ride their bikes for one hour each day over 30 consecutive days.
Specsavers were the primary supporters of the event for a fourth year. Woodies Coffee outlets also gave a donation from each cup of coffee sold from their outlets during the thirty days. The Kiln at Oatlands kindly hosted a ‘First Day Breakfast’ for the riders at the start of their challenge.
The total raised by the riders this year was £66,520.56 including a donation from Specsavers.
The organiser of the event, Ian Brown, was delighted with this year’s total. He said: “I am very grateful, as always, to all the riders for their efforts out on their bicycles and their supporters who donated to the fundraising in various ways. The event demonstrates what value and appreciation the Guernsey community has for Les Bourgs Hospice and the care and support it offers islanders and their families.”
This amount now takes the cumulative total raised since 2008 to over £1,179,770.41.
