HSBC’s Head of Customer and Products in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man, Christina Liciaga, has been featured in the inaugural EMpower Top 10 UK Black Role Models List presented by Google.
The List is a showcase of those business leaders who have made a significant contribution to breaking down barriers within the workplace for Black and ethnic minority individuals.
Determined by an independent selection committee, the list – published for the first time this year – highlights ten exceptional Black leaders from across multiple industries and backgrounds in the UK, who are driving the charge for inclusion.
The recognition comes shortly after both Christina and Sue Fox, CEO of HSBC Channel Islands and Isle of Man, were featured in the EMpower ‘Ethnic Minority Role Model Lists 2021’ published last month, which showcase business leaders who are working hard on behalf of ethnic minorities in the UK, Ireland, Europe, and North America, to drive change for inclusion.
Christina’s latest success reflects the considerable work she does both inside and outside of HSBC to advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion. As well as being an active member of EMBRACE, an appointee to HSBC’s Global Ethnicity Steering Committee and a co-founder of HSBC’s Black Action & Advisory Council (BLAAC), Christina also worked hard in 2020 to create safe spaces across the Bank for conversations on racial inequity and the lived black experience.
Commenting on Christina’s achievement, Sue said: “Integrating diversity and inclusion into the workplace is critical for our future sustainability as a business, and Christina’s efforts to bring about real, positive change is impressive. Her inclusion as one of the top ten role models for Black people in the UK is fully deserved.”
Christina added: “My support of diversity, equity and inclusion is both a personal passion and a business imperative. Diverse teams build more profitable businesses, enable companies to meet the needs of all their customers, and ensure you’re able to attract the best talent.
“Organisations simply aren’t as effective without being representative, and there’s still work to do collectively to make our places of work more inclusive and more reflective of the world we live in today. I am humbled to be included in this list and can only hope what I do builds advocates, inspires change and helps those underrepresented today to step up and into bigger spaces to make a better tomorrow.”
Founder and CEO of INvolve, Suki Sandhu OBE, said: “I am excited to unveil the EMpower Top 10 UK Black Role Models, presented by Google. This list showcases ten exceptional Black Role Models in business, representing multiple industries across the UK who are going above and beyond to drive ethnic minority inclusion. We cannot ignore the call to racial injustice and must work to dismantle barriers and systems that prevent Black people in business from succeeding and this fantastic group of ten are leading the way.”
