HSBC gives local expats the chance to share opinions about island life

HSBC is encouraging those who have moved abroad to share their experiences in its 2021 Expat Explorer survey.

The survey includes the Channels Islands and Isle of Man and is an opportunity to showcase island life on a global stage.

Every year the Annual League Table survey, the longest-running expat survey of its kind in the world, collects the opinions of thousands of people around the world who have relocated.

The survey explores many aspects of life abroad from pay and career progression to lifestyle, wellbeing, education and security. In 2021 a new research pillar, Future Outlook, will assess the effect of the pandemic on expat life and the importance of community, with the aim of providing overseas professionals with renewed confidence and optimism for the future. The findings include a ranking of the best countries and regions to live and work and survey insights are published widely in global media.

Last year (2020) the Isle of Man ranked in 11th place, with Jersey and Guernsey in 17th and 18th place respectively. A better work life balance and the islands being deemed safe and secure were notable reasons for the rankings in last year’s League Table.

Speaking about the launch of this year’s survey, Head of HSBC Expat John Goddard said: “Last year expats living in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man told us that professionals moving to the islands maximise their career potential and enjoy rewarding life experiences. We are looking to build on that this year and inspire pride in island life by encouraging our local expat communities to take part and share their opinions and experiences, so that these insights can help others better understand what life is like in the Islands and what makes each island such a desirable destination to live and work”.

The HSBC Expat Explorer survey is open until 30 April and can be accessed here.
