The Children’s Ward at the Isle of Man Noble’s Hospital has gained two additional telemetry monitors, thanks to the generosity of Henry Bloom Noble Healthcare Trust.
Telemetry and Central monitoring allows for regular/continuous measurement and documentation of clinical observations (i.e. vital signs and other physiological observations) and is an essential requirement for patient assessment and the recognition of clinical deterioration.
The Ward will benefit from additional telemetry to provide continuous monitoring and safe care for children admitted to the ward. The central monitoring system will be linked up to the main nurse’s station and onto removable devices allowing staff to monitor children at all times on and off the ward.
Specifically for Children’s Ward in Noble’s Hospital, additional telemetry will give staff the ability to manage cardiac patients on-Island and increase the number of beds that are visible at any one time.
The new equipment, generously purchased by Henry Bloom Noble Healthcare Trust, totalled nearly £40,000.
Telemetry offers many benefits, including real-time and automated data collection, which improves decision-making. It can also alert clinicians to a sudden or unusual change in activity. In addition, it allows professionals to focus on other medical duties without the need for constant supervision within a bedroom. Continuous monitoring includes either cardio-respiratory monitoring and/or pulse oximetry monitoring and can assist clinicians to identify rapid changes in condition.
Integrated Women, Children and Families Hospital Business Manager, Jenny Davies, said: “We are extremely thankful to Henry Bloom Noble Healthcare Trust for helping us get this project over the line and funding this new equipment. The monitors will directly link to the Nurses station, and enable the professionals on duty to manage caseloads more efficiently, enhancing patient safety.”
Mr Malcolm Clague, Chair of Henry Bloom Noble Healthcare Trust, added: “We are thrilled to have been able to help the Children’s Ward procure some additional equipment to assist with the provision of care. We’re incredibly impressed with how quickly the equipment has been implemented and installed by the Philips team – Henry Bloom Noble himself would be proud.”
