Guernsey Housing Association (GHA) has named its development under construction at the Oberlands ‘Courtil Le Pelley’, in honour of Amelia Le Pelley, the first practising female doctor in Guernsey.
The name reflects both Amelia Le Pelley’s contribution to the island’s medical history and the development’s close proximity to the Princess Elizabeth Hospital, reinforcing its purpose of supporting healthcare workers.
The development will provide 15 one-bedroom apartments for healthcare key workers. Infinity Construction is delivering the development, with completion expected in late summer 2026.
Lisa de Kooker, Chief Operating Officer at GHA, said: “Amelia Le Pelley was an important figure in Guernsey’s medical history, so Courtil Le Pelley is a fitting name for a development with such a clear connection to supporting Guernsey’s healthcare provision.
“These apartments will provide health key workers with convenient accommodation close to the hospital, a need that we have been pleased to help meet. Infinity has been a strong partner throughout the project and we look forward to the development of these homes being completed within the next few months.”
A blue plaque commemorating Amelia Le Pelley has been unveiled at Queens Road Medical Practice.
