All passenger sailings to Herm have been cancelled and Sark has closed its visitor centre.
The measures come after the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 jumped from two to 20 in Guernsey over the weekend of 21-22 March.
In a statement on social media, a Herm Island spokesperson said that all Herm Travel Trident sailings are postponed and boaters are requested not to visit the island until further notice.
‘It is with a very heavy heart that, following advice and guidance from the States of Guernsey and the Director of Medical Health, and for the protection of our loyal guests and island community, we regret to announce that access to Herm will now be restricted until further notice,’ the statement read.
We are extremely mindful that, even with social distancing measure, visitors will be put at further risk by being in close contact with one another, and your health and safety is our primary concern.’
In Sark, the Visitor Centre has been closed until further notice and Sark Shipping has reduced its timetable, with now just one passenger rotation per week in operation.
Anyone with a hotel or self-catering reservation in Herm up to 30 April 2020 is being asked to contact their travel insurers in the first instance. Any queries can be directed to [email protected].
Sark’s visitor centre is still open for enquiries and can be contacted at [email protected] or 01481 832345.
