Registration is now open for The Hawksford Castle Chase. This September will see the return of the competitive relay race from the Jersey shoreline that will pitch corporate teams against each other in a dash to Elizabeth Castle and back.

The Hawksford Castle Chase will take place at lunchtime on Thursday 27 September, when teams of two will race across the sands from West Park to the Parade Ground at the Castle and back again in a unique relay challenge to support Jersey Heritage’s Love Your Castle campaign, with prizes for the three fastest teams to cover the two-mile course.

Daniel Hainsworth, Corporate Services Director at Hawksford, said, “We are excited to be exclusive sponsors of the second Hawksford Castle Chase in partnership with Jersey Heritage. This is a fantastic event for the island community and we call on our neighbours along the Esplanade and in St Helier to get involved and enter their corporate teams. The castle makes for the perfect backdrop for a corporate challenge while at the same time, reminding islanders that we need to protect this iconic landmark in the bay.”

Last year, Jersey Heritage launched ‘Love Your Castle’, an ongoing fundraising campaign aimed at raising the funds needed to restore areas of the castle that remain closed to the public, following damage incurred during The Occupation.

Jersey Heritage Chief Executive Jon Carter said, “The potential of the castle is yet to be realised, for events, celebrations, education and more. There is a need to raise awareness of both the historical and environmental value of the fortress, and a long-term strategy to invest in the interpretation and telling of this historic landmark. We are very grateful to Hawksford for sharing our vision for the Love Your Castle campaign and in particular supporting this event, which will help raise awareness and funds through a fun and challenging way.”
