Guernsey’s Health Improvement Commission welcomes four new staff

Guernsey’s Health Improvement Commission LBG have recruited four new members to their now 15 strong team.

Grace Lindsay has joined the Substance Use team as the Tobacco Harm Reduction Officer while Trish De Carteret (Bailiwick Social Prescribing Link Worker Manager) and Candace Green (Bailiwick Social Prescribing Link Worker) have joined as part of the Bailiwick Social Prescribing (BSP) team. Harriet Aldous-Granby also joins the Commission as the Communications Officer.

With a background in counselling and experience of supporting young people through her previous role with the Youth Commission, Grace joins to help expand the work of the Substance Use team, her work will focus on reducing the health harms caused by tobacco in the Bailiwick.

Harriet has both local and international experience managing communications, most recently at a law firm and previously at the Guernsey Event Company. Harriet’s work involves leading and coordinating communications, PR, print media and social media, using a consistent voice to build support and increase the impact of the commission’s work in the community. She will be supporting the four Commission work streams; Be Active, Eat Well, Healthier Weight and Substance use, as well as Bailiwick Social Prescribing.

Candace Green and Trish De Carteret join Bailiwick Social Prescribing, a new free scheme in which the Commission is a partner. Social Prescribing works to link people with sources of non-medical support, helping to improve their health and wellbeing. The scheme will officially launch on 1 July and is a collaboration between the Guernsey community, charities, volunteer-led groups and faith organisations, The Health Improvement Commission LBG, IslandHealth, Guernsey Community Foundation, HSC and Public Health Services.

Trish will manage the Bailiwick Social Prescribing Link Worker team, while also supporting her own clients. She has extensive experience volunteering and working within the Third Sector including as fundraiser for Les Bourgs Hospice where she also remains as a volunteer and is a Council member for the Association of Guernsey Charities. Trish has also worked within the States Housing department, she is a short break carer for children with disabilities. Trish is really looking forward to seeing clients and making a difference to their lives.

Candace (shown in the main picture) brings experience of working with individuals and their families as a healthcare assistant at Les Bourgs Hospice, and as a central services administrative assistant with Healthcare Group where she worked closely with GPs on Healthcare’s accreditation ‘CHKS’. Candace has a real desire to help her clients improve their health and wellbeing in her new Link Worker role.

Dr Simon Sebire, Chief Executive Officer of the Health Improvement Commission said, “I’m very pleased to welcome Candace, Grace, Harriet and Trish to the Commission team. They each bring unique and valuable skills and experience which will really enhance our work in empowering, enabling and encouraging healthy living.”
