The winners of the Guernsey Design Awards 2026 have been announced, celebrating outstanding architecture, design and development from across the island.
The awards brought together Guernsey’s architectural, construction and property communities, with projects recognised across six main categories, alongside the People’s Choice, Mitch Sneddon Professional’s Choice and two specialist sponsored awards.
Four projects left the evening with double honours.
The Wood Shed, designed by DLM Architects and delivered as a self-build project, won the Small Projects Award as well as the Natural Light & Glazing Design Award, sponsored by Mumford & Wood. Judges praised the way the home cleverly combines new construction with a renovated barn on a constrained urban site, creating an airy and inviting home with exceptional detailing and an unusual palette of natural materials.
The Small Projects category also saw Ty Mor, designed by Tom Gaudion and constructed by Connect Services, receive the evening’s only Special Commendation. The judges described the transformation of the modest 1930s bungalow as an extraordinary experiment, recognising the imagination, dedication and craftsmanship that had gone into creating a contemporary, light-filled home.
Makepeace House, designed by Lovell Ozanne, developed in collaboration with John Makepeace OBE and constructed by Infinity Construction Ltd, won the Single Residential New Build Award and was also selected for the Mitch Sneddon Professional’s Choice Award. Despite the constraints of a narrow plot, restricted access and significant logistical challenges, judges highlighted the extraordinary attention to detail, craftsmanship and bespoke elements that give the home its distinctive character.
Shell House, designed by Jamie Falla for Studio Otto and constructed by LG Construction, received both the Heritage Award and the public-voted People’s Choice Award. The judges recognised the care taken to understand and preserve the historic building, protecting original features and using local materials while introducing a calm, contemporary extension that brings additional light and space.
Allanson Court, designed by Tyrrell Dowinton Architects and constructed by Swallow Construction Ltd, won the Multiple Residential Development Award and the Sustainable Design & Energy Innovation Award, sponsored by C8 Eco. Judges particularly praised the way the development responds to the site’s challenging topography, as well as its energy-efficient homes, provision for sustainable transport and cohesive approach to architecture and landscaping.
The Single Residential Renovation/Extension Award went to The West Coast Farmhouse, designed by StudiO and constructed by Breton. The project stood out for the seamless integration of its internal and external spaces, reversing the orientation of the house to make a previously underused walled garden its tranquil focal point. Judges described the architecture as bold and contemporary while remaining complementary to the character of the original building.
The Commercial Award was presented to Creasey’s Department Store, designed by Lovell Ozanne Architect and Lyons+Sleeman+Hoare Architects, with Rihoy & Son as contractor. The judges highlighted the complexity of delivering six levels of cohesive, contemporary retail space, overcoming significant challenges around space, structure, circulation, programming and phasing while enhancing both the Town seafront and High Street.
The Guernsey Design Awards recognise projects that demonstrate excellence in design and make a positive contribution to the island’s built environment. This year’s winners span residential, commercial and heritage projects of varying scales, reflecting the breadth of design talent and expertise found across Guernsey.
