Businesses in the Bailiwick are being asked to share information and views on Brexit.

The States of Guernsey has commissioned BMG Research Limited to carry out a study of the potential impact of Brexit on businesses in the Bailiwick. From next week, the researchers will contact firms in Guernsey, Alderney, and Sark to obtain information about their trading and employment practices, and to gather their views on the opportunities and challenges of Brexit.

The researchers will also ask for views on joining the World Trade Organisation.

The Committee for Economic Development, working closely with the Policy & Resources Committee, commissioned the research. The findings will be used by the States to inform extensive ongoing work to plan for the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union.

The research will also help the States prepare for the future economic framework between the UK and the EU, and any opportunities which may arise for the Bailiwick, an important aspect of which involves preparing the Bailiwick to join the WTO under the UK’s membership.

BMG Research will conduct the survey primarily by telephone, with calls being made by trained market researchers, to a sample of local businesses of varying sizes and across various economic sectors.

Any business not contacted directly by the researchers, or which does not wish to participate in a telephone survey, will have the option of completing an online version of the survey.
