Several charitable causes in Guernsey’s health sector have been awarded grants by the Social Investment Fund, with funding supported by the Channel Islands Lottery.
The Channel Islands (CI) Lottery works closely with the Social Investment Fund (SIF) in Guernsey, as well as Jersey Community Foundation and the Association of Jersey Charities in Jersey. These grant-making organisations distribute Lottery funding to charitable causes in the Channel Islands. In addition to funding from the CI Lottery, funding for SIF’s grants comes from the Guernsey Probate Registry and a percentage of proceeds of all seized assets.
Recent SIF grants to the health sector include £156,000 awarded to Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association, £21,243 to Health Connections, £12,500 to Guernsey Friends of Maggie’s, £73,000 to Guernsey Cheshire Home and £9,750 to Headway Guernsey.
Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association is using their grant to ensure their dedicated team can continue delivering essential support services to clients and their families, helping them navigate the challenges they face and improving their quality of life.
Guernsey Friends of Maggie’s is using their grant to support the salary costs of cancer support specialists and the essential running costs of their Southampton facility – a service for all Guernsey islanders receiving cancer treatment at University Hospital Southampton.
Health Connections is using their grant to support their community transport service, while Guernsey Cheshire Home used their grant to support management salaries and Headway Guernsey is using theirs to support rental costs.
Chair of SIF’s directors, the Very Reverend Tim Barker, said: “By investing in these organisations, we are helping them to sustain and expand their vital services, ultimately improving the quality of life for individuals and families throughout the Bailiwick of Guernsey. It is rewarding to see how this support enables these charities to continue their essential work and make a real difference in our community. We are grateful to the CI Lottery for their funding.”
Jon Taylor, Presiding Officer for the CI Lottery, said: “We are proud to see the impact that Channel Islands Lottery funding is making in Guernsey’s health sector by supporting funding for grants awarded by the Social Investment Fund. This funding supports a range of crucial services, from autism and Alzheimer’s care to cancer support and community health initiatives. We look forward to continuing our work with the Social Investment Fund to make a lasting and positive difference.”
