Guernsey Gardens gets greener fingers

As part of a pledge to reduce their environmental impact in 2019, Guernsey Gardens has partnered with WeedingTech, the world’s leading herbicide-free weedkiller.

Home-grown initiatives like ‘Plastic Free Guernsey’ and ‘Found on the Beach’ show that islanders are conscious about their environmental impact and Guernsey Gardens wants to offer islanders an eco-friendly alternative to traditional weedkillers.

Managing Director of Guernsey Gardens Jerry Gallienne said: “This year we’ve made a conscious effort to be greener and reducing the amount of herbicides we use is a huge step toward this.It means we can offer an ecologically safe solution for controlling unwanted vegetation on all surfaces, including driveways and pavements. And unlike most weedkillers, WeedingTech’s FoamStream solution can be used in all weather, all year round.

“We’ve also introduced an incentive scheme to encourage our team to cycle to work instead of driving, and we’ve already managed to reduce the amount of waste we have down to just one skip collection a month. I think we’re all proud of having a clean island and we want to do our part to help keep it that way.”

FoamStream is organically certified and has been used by companies such as Yeo Valley Farms in Somerset, South West Water and Glastonbury Town Council.

To celebrate their green commitment Guernsey Gardens are asking islanders to vote for a community space for them to clean for free. In the running for a free green clean are the outdoor spaces at Bright Beginnings Children’s Centre at Delancey Park and the children’s bathing pool.

Islanders can cast their vote by visiting Guernsey Gardens’ Facebook page and nominating the space they think deserves a good scrub. www.facebook.com/guernseygardens/
