Guernsey Electricity’s staff have marked the conclusion of the company’s 125th anniversary by planting 125 trees on a site near Bordeaux.

In total, 14 members of staff volunteered to plant a mix of native species, including apple, pear, lime, and hawthorn on the morning of Friday 12 December.

Throughout the year, Guernsey Electricity’s staff have been supporting local charities through a mix of volunteer work and fundraising. This latest initiative will enhance local biodiversity and make a lasting contribution to the environment for generations to come.

Andy McCutcheon, Technical Officer at Guernsey Trees for Life, said: “Guernsey Trees for Life is delighted to have worked with staff of Guernsey Electricity to plant 125 trees on a site near Bordeaux.

“Not only does this collaborative effort mark a special anniversary but it leaves a special legacy which will benefit the environment, for years to come, by supporting nature and biodiversity as part of a network of plantings across the whole island.”

Christian Lacey-Brennan, Head of Communications and Engagement at Guernsey Electricity, added: “For 125 years our employees have been committed to helping our local community through a range of charitable and voluntary activities, with a particular focus on sustainability and the environment.

“We hope that by planting native trees we can help to provide a safe habitat for wildlife and strengthen the area’s natural ecosystem.”
