Guernsey Dairy will compete against household brands such as Yeo Valley and Rachel’s Organic after being shortlisted for a prestigious national Organic Dairy award.
Guernsey Dairy is one of eight finalists in The Soil Association’s ‘Best of Organic Dairy’ BOOM Awards category for its Organic RSPCA Assured A2 Milk.
Les Fauconnaires Farm, under the care of Jim and Liz Naftel, is the island’s only organic farm and it supplies the Dairy with around 1,000 litres of organic milk every week.
Guernsey Dairy’s Quality and Compliance Manager Alex Tielles said: “It is unique to have milk with such high standards in animal welfare and land management and also with milk from only A2 cattle as well.
“The Dairy team and Jim and Liz work incredibly hard to make sure the best product gets to our customers. We try to do as little as possible to it to make sure it’s really natural. I’m so pleased for the farmers and our staff to see this product recognised alongside major multi-national players. It shows it really is one of the best out there.”
The Soil Association standards require cows to be fed a wholesome diet that is free from artificial additives, chemicals and genetically modified ingredients. The use of antibiotics is restricted and there are limitations on the use of pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides on the land.
The BOOM Awards are the UK’s only organic awards. A panel of six industry experts preside over the entries and judge products based on their taste and quality.
The winners will be announced at the BOOM (Best of Organic Market) awards ceremony in Bristol on Wednesday 5th July 2023.
