Guernsey-based global travel group The Travel Corporation (TTC) is celebrating 100 years in business.
The family-run and owned group, which contributes more than £10 million a year to Guernsey’s economy, marked the occasion at a lunchtime reception at the Old Government House Hotel, which it owns.
Senior members of the group, which has its head office in Guernsey, were in attendance, alongside representatives from the States of Guernsey, Chamber of Commerce, and local business leaders.
‘We are all immensely proud to work for this global company that is truly driven by service and cares deeply about not only its customers but also the communities in which it operates, with Guernsey being an important example,’ said TTC’s chief financial officer and senior board director Mick Holland.
‘We are empowered and encouraged by our owners to give back in any way we can, from local sustainability efforts and volunteering to charity events, and our office in Travel House has been a consistent holder of the Keep Guernsey Green award.’
TTC’s anniversary celebrates 100 years since Solomon Tollman, father of TTC’s chairman and founder Stanley Tollman, opened his first hotel in Paternoster, South Africa. The group now operates across seven continents with 42 brands including Red Carnation Hotels – which owns The OGH and the Duke of Richmond hotels – river cruise operator Uniworld, youth travel specialist Contiki and guided holiday experts Trafalgar and Insight Vacations.
Trafalgar, the group’s flagship company, has been operating for five decades from Picquet House in St Peter Port. TTC currently employs 200 people and the island is also home to TTC’s head office and one of its busiest global call centres at Travel House.
‘While many of Guernsey’s residents will have experienced the hospitality at one of our hotels, or visited Piquet House, perhaps not so many will realise the scale of the business and the depth and breadth of the holidays we offer, which is what we are hoping to communicate by welcoming an esteemed group of dignitaries, valued partners and prominent business people to our VIP event,’ said Mr Holland.
‘Globally we operate in 70 countries, employing about 10,000 people across the world, but at the heart of TTC is a story of love, dedication, hard work and innovation, and we are looking forward to sharing this with our guests.’
