Guernsey Arts has announced its latest venture: the rental and management takeover of The George Crossan Gallery within the Market Buildings.
The gallery will now serve as a permanent vibrant venue for community and heritage exhibitions administered by Guernsey Arts.
The full time occupation of The George Crossan Gallery marks a significant milestone for Guernsey Arts, enabling the team to broaden their scope. Whilst the gallery has been used by Guernsey Arts in recent years to host the Student Open and the Guernsey Arts Open, this agreement means that the gallery will be managed by the Guernsey Arts Team on a year round basis. The gallery’s prime location makes it easily accessible to both locals and visitors, providing an ideal setting to showcase and promote a diverse range of artworks from across the community.
“We are incredibly excited about the opportunities that The George Crossan Gallery presents,” said Russ Fossey, Head of Arts Development at Guernsey Arts. “This new space will allow us to expand our collective community and heritage exhibitions, whilst we continue to support individual artist exhibitions at the Greenhouse Gallery.”
The Crossan Gallery’s open space is perfectly suited for displaying a variety of art forms. The team look forward to experimenting with the space, with the aim of making it a dynamic venue for artistic expression and cultural engagement. Guernsey Arts is committed to leveraging this space to create enriching experiences for all visitors from across the community and beyond.
As Guernsey Arts embarks on this new chapter, the team extends their heartfelt thanks to Bailiwick Estates, managing agents of the Marketing Buildings, for their support and collaboration. Guernsey Arts are also grateful to The Swallow 2018 Charitable Trust, who are the principal sponsors of this investment. “As keen supporters of the Arts in Guernsey, the Swallow Trust is delighted to sponsor this new arts space in the centre of Town.” said Stephen Ainsworth, the chairman of the Swallow 2018 Charitable Trust. “Its location will bring Art into the centre of the community.”
