Guernsey announces new UK quarantine requirements for international arrivals

From Monday 15th February, people arriving in England who have visited or passed through a country where travel to the UK is banned (sometimes called ‘the red list’) in the 10 days before their arrival will need to quarantine for at least 10 days in a managed hotel at their own cost.

They will also need to take a Covid-19 test on or before day 2 and on or after day 8 of their quarantine. Release from quarantine will be subject to a negative test result. Should a person test positive their quarantine will be extended by 10 days from the date of the test.

Persons arriving with the intent of travelling on to the Bailiwick of Guernsey will need to complete the 10 day quarantine in England before they can leave to travel to the Bailiwick. Furthermore, on arrival at their final destination in the Bailiwick they will still need to complete the mandatory 14 day self-isolation including testing on the day of arrival and on day 13.

Persons intending to arrive in England having visited or passed through a country on the red list need to check the information on the UK Government’s website as there are actions that you need to take before your arrival, including but not limited to booking your accommodation package. This information is available here.

People arriving in England with the intent of travelling on to the Bailiwick who have not visited or passed through a country of the red list in the 10 days before their arrival will still be able to do so without the need to quarantine in England. However, during their transit through the UK they should comply with all the UK Government’s lockdown requirements.

In addition, should it not be possible to complete the journey to the Bailiwick on the same day as arriving in England they will need to travel directly to their place of isolation (a hotel as they cannot generally stay in a person’s home) and then follow all isolation requirements until they leave to travel directly to their port of departure to travel to Guernsey.

There are no changes to the arrangements for people travelling from the Bailiwick of Guernsey to the UK. This means that there is no requirement to isolate on arrival or to provide evidence of a negative Covid-19 test (unless required by the carrier).
