Charities are being invited to apply for a share of the funds that will be raised by the 2020 Saffery Rotary Walk. Any charity or not-for-profit organisation benefitting Guernsey, Alderney, Herm or Sark can apply, provided it is registered in the Bailiwick.
Funding can be requested for specific projects, equipment, facilities, trips or initiatives that benefit local communities. Projects of all sizes will be considered. This year 25 charities benefited from funding and previous applicants are more than welcome to apply again. Applications for general running costs will not be considered.
Simon Milsted, chair of the walk’s organising committee said: “The walk has evolved into a really well-loved community event, and this is in large part due to all the fantastic work that the supported charities do for the Bailiwick. The money raised by the walkers each year makes a real difference. We’re so grateful to all the support we get from the whole community and also from our main sponsor Saffery Champness. Every year we raise more and more and it’s wonderful to be involved in an event that benefits the whole island.”
The Saffery Rotary Walk is one of the leading charity events on the island and this year islanders went the extra mile with 955 walkers, including 35 relay teams, taking part and raising £86,500. Next year’s Walk takes place on Saturday 6 June 2020.
Lisa Vizia, director at Saffery Champness and member of the organising committee, said: “Raising money for charities is a huge part of the Walk and a real motivator for people taking part. We would like to hear from any local community or charity organisation that would like the help of islanders in raising money for their important work.”
Deadline for application is 5pm on Saturday 30 November 2019. Charity application forms can be downloaded at www.safferyrotarywalk.org.gg and should be sent via email to [email protected]
Forms can also be collected from Saffery Champness’ office at La Tonnelle House, Les Banques, St Sampson’s.
