To mark 10 years of business, Indulge Media has created a brand new website for the local MS Society group in Guernsey, transforming the charity’s online presence.
“The MS Society has been a charity close to our hearts for many years, which is why we feel that our 10 year anniversary is the perfect time to give something back to the local community by donating our time and digital expertise,” said Linsey Burnard, project and account manager at Indulge Media.
Founded in 1976, the Bailiwick Group (known as MS Society, Guernsey group) covers the Bailiwick of Guernsey, which includes the islands of Alderney, Sark, and Herm. The society relies on its dedicated committee and tremendous support from the community.
“Given that my mum has MS, I have been fairly close to the MS Society for a few years now, helping out in small ways where possible,” said Dan Ford, lead developer for the Guernsey MS Group website project at Indulge Media.
“I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to be a part of a much larger contribution to the charity this year. It has been a great team effort, from all the staff at Indulge, the charity’s committee members and the local MS nurse Debbie Robilliard. I was really pleased that my directors, Pat and Russ, were so on board with the project and equally as excited to give something back to the community.”
Guernsey has a significant number of cases of Multiple Sclerosis. It is believed that there are around 150 people in the Bailiwick of Guernsey with MS.
Only 20% of those diagnosed with MS in Guernsey are members of the society and as a result a need has developed for easily accessible localised content, with a specific focus on the process of diagnosis and on-going care, medications, and treatment available in Guernsey, as well as financial and social support available on the island. The new website delivers all this and more.
It is now also much easier to donate and join the Society!
“Our aim throughout this project has been to make it a community effort, with the goal to create a website that supports people living with multiple sclerosis and their families, friends, and carers by offering specific, localised content that is relevant to anyone living in Guernsey, Alderney, Herm, or Sark,” said Ms Burnard.
The new website will continue to be closely associated with MS Society UK, tying in with their expertise and latest research.
Linda Fermont, group co-ordinator, MS Society, Guernsey Group, said: “Being involved with the creation of this website from the start, I have to say that it has been a fascinating experience but a very steep learning curve! When gathering information for the site, you start seeing things from a different perspective and, with Indulge’s support, we have worked to provide all the information you would require if you were in a specific situation. I hope the end result will be welcomed, not only by the Guernsey MS community, but all who visit the site wanting to understand more about MS.”
Rob Platts, previous chairman of MS Society Guernsey, said: “I love the new website. It is clear, fresh, very easy to navigate and logically laid out. It has an authoritative, yet welcoming feel and the picture on the Home page straight away suggests that having MS is not a barrier to enjoying a rewarding life.”
